Working on airtable.com

Who's ranking above us for “database software”, and can we actually beat any of them?

You're #7. Six sites above you, and they split cleanly into two groups.

The ones you won't catch: Oracle, Microsoft, MongoDB, and Google Cloud. Oracle alone gets around 15 million visits a month. That's decades of links and a product category built around them, not something a content fix closes. I'd stop measuring yourself against them for this term.

The two you can: coda.io (#4) and monday.com (#6). Neither is much bigger than you. coda gets about 3 times your traffic, monday about 1.5 times. I read both pages, and neither is winning on authority.

How coda beats you. Its title is "Database Software: Build Custom Apps, No Code Needed." Yours is "Database Software | Airtable." Theirs tells Google and the searcher exactly what happens when you click: a specific job, done without code. Yours tells them your name. For a short, broad search like this, Google leans hard on whether the title matches what people want, and theirs does.

How monday beats you. Its whole page is a comparison table against Excel and Access, which is what a lot of people typing "database software" are actually doing: comparing. Yours doesn't mention a single alternative.

What I think is realistic. A better title alone could plausibly move you up two or three spots. Passing coda would need the title plus a real comparison section. Passing Microsoft, I wouldn't promise.

Write me the new title and the comparison section.

Title options (Google shows about 60 characters, so all three fit):

  1. Free Database Software for Teams: No Developer Required (55)
  2. No-Code Database Software: Build It Yourself in Minutes (54)
  3. The Database That Works Like a Spreadsheet, Not IT Ticket (58)

I'd use #1. It matches coda's "no code needed" promise, says who it's for, and "no developer required" is the phrase your own customers already use, so the page and the product say the same thing.

The comparison section, to go under your hero:

The honest line to put under it: "If you need a database an engineering team owns, MongoDB is the better tool. If you want something your whole team can use without one, that's what we built." Saying who you're not for is what makes the rest believable.

Ship it.

Pull request #15 is open with the new title and the comparison section on /database. The prices are from each tool's pricing page today, with a "last checked" note underneath.

Once it's merged, I'll track "database software" every few days. Titles tend to show up in rankings within one or two weeks; the comparison section takes longer to count. I'll tell you what moved, and if it's nothing, I'll say that too.
